Selling Your Car Trade-In Or Private Sale

Selling your car Trade-in or Private sale

Selling your car can be an inconvenience to say the least. First you have to decide whether to trade it in or sell it privately. There are two schools of thoughts on this. There is the person who can't stand the hassle of selling their car privately so go to a dealer to trade the old one in and get the best price they can, knowing that the car they buy will have some kind of guarantee but it will cost them more. Then there is the person who wants to get the best price for their car so has to sell it privately, then uses that cash to buy a car privately to get it cheaper than it would cost at a dealer, but sacrifices any kind of guarantee. Then in some cases you get the cross-over where someone tries to get a high price for their car by selling it privately but after weeks of not selling because they are being greedy and have spent a fortune on advertising they get desperate to sell the car and end up trading it in to a car dealer.

Each method of selling your car has benefits and risks so you have to decide which to go for. Using the Internet you can now reach far more buyers than when you could only use magazines, plus it can cost less. If you are wanting to sell a BMW quickly without any cost or hassle try Buy My BMW. This site sends emails with details of your car to waiting buyers who then contact you.

The problem with selling privately is you have to organize advertisements, then wait at home for the phone to ring because most people who phone in response to your ad want to view your car for sale straight away. You can of course put your mobile number in the ad then carry on with life but the problem then is that apart from being illegal to speak on the phone whilst driving, it's just not a good idea to have a detailed conversation about your car whilst on the phone in case you crash it - sale over.

If you are not in a hurry to sell your car you can start by asking a high price then reduce it in following weeks. There are numerous ways of finding out the value of your car before placing the first ad. Unless you want to sell it quickly don't under value it. I have kicked myself a few times when, after placing an ad to sell my car the phone hasn't stopped ringing for a week. It was obviously too much of a bargain!

Trading in can be so much easier, what you have to be aware of is that everything is negotiable. Remember these two things. Never ‘fall in love' with a car, and be prepared to walk away from the salesman. Negotiate until he will let you leave the showroom without making the sale, then you know he has reached his absolute bottom price.

trying to get a new car (from a CR-V to an MDX) - really bad at this car-buying-stuff... read?
okay. so, me and my ex bought a Honda CR-V together in April. We overpayed (18,495) for an 04 with 66K miles on it. It's an EX, has a sunroof, 6 disc, roof racks, privacy glass, etc. We were finacing 10K on it for 54 months. We now owe about 9K on it. I had a paid off Civic that my insurance was 110 a month (I'm 20 years old) and now that I have this (it's only titled in my name - but we're both on the loan) I have a $247/ month payment and my insurance runs about $250/ month. He moved out, and is only paying his half of the loan - no longer helping with insurance. I can't afford to keep paying the insurance and the payment - I'm looking to knock stuff down to about 400/ month max. I don't know if that's possible, but I gotta try!! first of all, i'll be buying this car on my own. i was already approved through honda financial services, so i'm gonna be sticking to a honda or acura. i like the mdx - it's such a nice car. & rumor has it that it would bump down my insurance because it has a wider base, is lower to the ground, and is 5 star all around. (the honda had 4 star rollover and passenger safety). also, i'll be getting an older one with higher miles. i'm looking into selling my vehicle privately and then paying it off and using that as a down payment. i know the trade in value of it would be horrid. i know a sedan would lower everything, but i don't like them - and it's safer in my eyes and i love the "trunk" space. (HUGE stroller). the thing is, i don't have great credit (it's not bad, just not built up yet) and i had it checked at a dealership yesterday and they said they could get me approved for an 03 vehicle that had no more than 85K miles on it. so i would have to balance everything out selling my car privately, getting the down payment for the new one, finding a new one that they could get me approved for, making sure my insurance is gonna lower on it, make sure my payments are gonna lower, AND not be without a vehicle for even one day. is this even possible?? has anyone done this before?? any suggestions for how to do this without screwing myself???

broken contract auto dealer can you help?
I have contacted a Lawyer about a broken contract he said I have a case to retrieve my money back what do you know or think? I paid a $500.00 deposit for a yard to hold a car for me for one month towards the end of the month I changed my mind as the trade in they were willing to give me was about $3000 less than I wanted for my car, no trade in was agreed on at the start of the month ( I tried to sell my car privately but had no luck) once I canceled the contract they hit me with a LOSS OF PROFIT fee (not sure if that exists) of $2000 which my wife reluctantly paid and the contract was canceled and signed by the dealer, now the lawyer believes that the LOSS OF PROFIT fee is un just if i fight this am I then liable to pay a broken contract fee if I get back the LOSS OF PROFIT fee through legal action the car I bought sat in their yard for 17 business days and had no work done on it no add ons and did not get detailed! I live in Adelaide South Australia.
